CHONDRITE MELTING EXPERIMENTS: CAN ANGRITE LEW87051 BE PRODUCED BY PARTIAL MELTING OF A CV OR CM CHONDRITE? A.J.G Jurewicz

چکیده
Introduction: LEW2 consists of abundant, coarse subhedral to euhedral olivine crystals (-FOG()90, typical grainsize -0.5mm) set in a fine-grained intergranular groundmass composed primarily of plagioclase, olivine, and Ca-A1 pyroxene [eg. 1,2]. The groundmass clearly represents a crystallized melt [3,4]. McKay et al. [6] proposed that this interstitial groundmass melt was produced by fractional crystallization of the large olivine crystals from a more olivinerich melt. They created a "reverse fractional crystallization" model, using major and minor element partition coefficients from phase-equilibria experiments on a synthetic LEW2 analog, to calculate the compositions of liquids along the fractional crystallization path leading to the LEW2 groundmass, and the compositions of the resulting olivine phenocrysts. The model reproduced the Cr and Ca zoning patterns of the largest LEW2 olivines, with the exception of small cores. McKay et al.J6] proposed a specific composition for the olivine-rich parent melt, with a liquidus near 1320 C.

Systematics and Evaluation of Meteorite Classification
Classification of meteorites is largely based on their mineralogical and petrographic characteristics and their whole-rock chemical and O-isotopic compositions. According to the currently used classification scheme, meteorites are divided into chondrites, primitive achondrites, and achondrites. There are 15 chondrite groups, including 8 carbonaceous (CI, CM, CO, CV, CK, CR, CH, CB), 3 ordinary ...

The chromitite ores of Sabzevar ophiolitic zone could be divided into two groups of high Cr and high Al. The concentration of Cr2O3, As, S and some heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Ag, Co, Zn) is higher in high Cr samples; while high Al chromitites show higher concentration of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and other trace elements. The high Cr chromitites have higher PGE than Al-rich samples and PGE concentration inc...

The lower to middle Miocene Chenar granitoid stock, a part of Central Iranian volcanic belt, is intruded into Eocene volcano-sedimentary complex in northwestern Kerman in south Central Iran. The Chenar granitoid stock consists mainly of coarse to medium grain granodiorite and monzogranite with subordinate tonalite and syenogranite. Alkali granites as aplitic veins and quartz dioritic dykes freq...
متن کاملExamination of High Temperature Annealing of Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates: Heating Experiments of Forsterite and Anorthite Mixtures
Introduction: Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates (AOAs) are irregularly-shaped, 100 µm to 5 mm in size, fine-grained objects that constitute a few vol% of meteorites in most carbonaceous chondrite groups. Previous studies concluded that AOAs are aggregates of solar nebula condensates which continued to react with the solar nebula vapor to the temperature to form phyllosilicates. However, these studies...
